Alton Area Cluster

Alton is a city on the Mississippi River in Illinois in Madison County. Alton is about 15 miles north of St. Louis, Missouri. It is a part of the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan area, known as the Metro-East. Alton is rich in history as one of the oldest cities in the state of Illinois famous for its limestone bluffs along the river north of the city and as the hometown of jazz musician Miles Davis and the tallest known person in history, Robert Wadlow, among other things.

The Alton Cluster of UCM was formed in 2007 and focuses on three local issues:

  • Restorative Justice (supporting community reentry for returning citizens

  • Caring for Creation:  partners with Sierra Club as a Metro-East Green Alliance

  • Racial Reconciliation:  through sponsored community conversations
