President’s Message

I am humbled and honored to have been elected President of United Congregations of Metro-East. I accept this office with great admiration for the past presidents and board members of UCM. I have been active in UCM for twenty-six years; participating in many campaigns, visits to political officials, and public actions. I’ve met many people in one-to-one conversations and group actions. The most meaningful relationships of my life have been forged during the twenty-six years of my involvement in UCM. When asked why I keep doing the work, I reply that “I can not, not do this work”. I consider the work UCM does in our communities as my vocation.

As the new president of UCM, I feel a great responsibility to each member of our organization and everyone UCM has touched and will touch in the future. With the acquisition of power of an office comes the responsibility to use that power judiciously. The strength of UCM members and its leadership is its ability to see itself (his/her self) clearly and self-correct when necessary. I look forward to working with our members and the UCM Board toward empowering individuals and communities in environmental justice, transformative justice, and integrated voter engagement.

Thank you,

Larry Evans
President of United Congregations of Metro-East
